Someone was already waiting for Jon when he got home. This someone pulled him into a hug immediately, before he even walked in the door, followed by a deep kiss he didn't try very hard to resist.
"Nice to see you too, Katie." He grinned at his girlfriend as they pulled away. "To what do I owe this visit, beautiful?"
A short, pretty blonde girl grinned back, leaning up to peck him on the cheek once more before answering. "I heard you got something pretty cool. Can I see it?"
His heart skipped a beat. How did she know? Was she being coy, or did she actually not know what it was? The best way to find out was to just ask her. "Where did you hear that?"
She shrugged; the very picture of angelic innocence. "I dunno... it was all around school. Was it a secret?"
"Yeah... I only told Karyn." His girlfriend's face twisted in disgust at the mention of Karyn. She didn't like that his best friend was a girl, something he thought was dumb. Why should she care?
"Oh... I see. You told her. When were you going to tell me?" He hadn't thought of that, and further, he didn't trust her as much as he did Karyn. "I was gonna. You wanna see it?"
He smiled, hopefully that patched things up. Opening up the box, he dumped the rock into her hand. "This is it? A rock?" Her eyes narrowed as she looked up at him. "Come on, let's go inside and I'll explain." Pushing her in, he sat down at the kitchen table.
"That's a magic rock. It grants wishes. I know you're not gonna believe me, and please don't try out a wish to make sure it works, they can't be reversed." She looked at him skeptically; understandably so.
"The wishes change reality for everyone but the people who hear them, and they can't be reversed, so be careful if you do make one. Please ask me first." He almost begged her; the girl who had near-infinite power sitting in her hand if she chose to believe him.
