The door opened and his mom walked in. When she got close enough, Jon began to change. This time he was able to watch, thanks to the mirror. His piercings and dark make-up disappeared, his skin became less pale, his spiked collar disappeared, his hair returned to a more normal style, his fishnet shirt became a sports T-shirt, his leather pants became a pair of blue jeans, and his boots became a pair of sneakers. And all of this happened within five seconds.
"Did you find what you were looking for, honey?"
He turned towards her. Suddenly, he felt for her. He couldn't be sure, but he thought that he loved her, romantically. The bond with her that he felt came more suddenly than it had with Mikey or Zoe. And that brought Jon to the conclusion that maybe it was cumulative. The more times he became someone's ideal version of himself, the more powerful the bond became.
"No. I didn't." That's because he never got a chance to look.
"Maybe I could help you."
"No, that's okay. I'll just look later." He didn't want to risk anyone else finding the stone before he did. He did trust his wife, but even she could make things worse.
Did I just think of her as my wife and not my mom? Jon thought. He had to fix this before he ended up having sex with her or something. Of course, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. His wife was a very sexy woman. Maybe that was why he married her.
He shook his head. What was wrong with him? She was still his mother. The very idea of having sex with her should disgust him, but it didn't. It increasingly didn't.
"Come on, let's go eat," Jon said. He'd just come back later. But as they left the room, he wondered if maybe his grandfather had never given him the stone in this reality. Why would he give the stone to someone he barely knew? Jon had to return to normal. Or at least as normal as possible.
