"I don't feel much different. Are you sure we can't die now?" Karyn complained.
"I made the wish... but I didn't mention the time frame," Jon realized. "I wished for us to get the treatment last night, and that it would be available to everyone within ten years, but my wish said nothing about how long it would take for the treatment to reach full effect."
Karyn brought out the stone. "I wish we knew exactly what last night's treatment is going to do to us, and what it's doing now," she said. The stone glowed for a moment.
The N-Cells currently give you improved regenerative capability. As your natural cells age and deteriorate, the N-Cells will increase their presence in your body until they replace all your cells, which will be about the time you would have otherwise died of old age. At this point you will become a kind of metamorph, and be virtually indestructible.
"Ah," Jon said. "I sort of guessed that was going to be the case." He took the stone from Karyn.
"I thought you agreed we weren't messing up reality if we could help it," protested Karyn.
"I've got it figured out," reassured Jon. "I wish Dr. Chester would discover a safe way to accelerate the N-Cells' spread in our bodies, such that the final state can be reached within one month, and that he would phone me in five minutes and explain how it works."
"All right, that's enough for now," Karyn scolded, taking the stone as it glowed again. She put it back in its box and tied a ribbon around it tightly.
