Genie backed up until her back was pushed almost up against her lamp's wall. How had this happened at all? Joseph was never supposed to be a genie, and she wasn't sure if she could even make someone a genie. But then, this was now the second time Josephine had been garbed as a wishgranter. And then Genie made a realization. They were not in a lamp or even the lamp. They were in Genie's lamp. This was her sanctuary, her home, the one place in all the world where no one could threaten or command her. So long had she been a servant that she automatically demurred to Josephine, but that needn't be the case.
Even as the red-clad genie came to her, Genie gathered herself and spoke in as forceful a tone as she could muster.
"Sit. Down." It was the first time she had spoken a command since becoming a genie. It felt strange. Wrong, somehow, but Genie pushed that thought out of her mind as Josephine's eyes went wide and then she sat down like a kitten on one of the pillows in the lamp.
"What did you do to me, you bitch?"
"No, you cannot call me that here. In here, in my lamp, you shall call me Mistress." Genie began to stalk around the newly-minted wishgranter. This whole thing felt unnatural and Genie had her doubts about it. She still felt a need to obey this woman, perhaps because she was still Joseph, in a way, and still a master. She was still working out exactly what happened too.
"Very well, Mistress," Josephine said, her eyes widening.
"I don't know why you are a genie. That was not my intent. Josephine, you were meant to be a part-time model about to go on a photoshoot in a genie costume. I wanted to make you feel sexy. I was not trying to warp your wish."
"Then why am enslaved, Mistress?"
That gave Genie pause and she shook her head. "I wish I knew ..."
