"What are we celebrating again?" John asked.
"A little early to start getting wasted, isn't it?" said Rick, now Mr. Middleton's friend. "You haven't even had one beer yet."
"Humor me. I forgot, okay?"
"Well, my best bud here just got promoted," he said, slapping Jacob's back. "You are looking at the new vice president of the Newcom Corporation."
"Congratulations," John said to the formerly married Jacob Middleton.
"See?" Rick said, turning towards Jacob. "This is why I always tell you to never get married. Wives just get in the way of success."
John wondered if he should use the Reality Tuner here again or just leave things as they were and head somewhere else to try it out there instead. He had an entire town to experiment on, after all.
