"Well, I'm talking to Vicky right now," Nick told Vicky's mother Patricia. "I'm just being friendly. So why don't you go and get a coffee or something. You trust me completely with your daughter, right?"
Suddenly, the concern disappeared from Patricia's face and sense of familiarity replaced it. "Of course, I trust you, Nick. I mean, we've known each other for, what has it been? Three years now?"
"Something like that," Nick said, smiling.
"I'll be back in a few minutes, honey," Patricia told her daughter, then she headed off.
