Richard liked his job. Being a technician in The Newshape Shop wasn't a very demanding task. The science crew did most of the work with the machines and the programming crew dealt with the automatic serving system. He just needed to make sure they have all the tools they need.
He also needed to keep an eye on the systems console to watch out for any errors which, given the sophistication of the system were quite unlikely to happen anyway.
Richard didn't party very often but when he did he partied hard. And so it happened that by a flick of bad luck, or some might call it fate, he partied the day before his night shift. And also so it happened, that that night the system registered it's first ever malfunction.
WARNING: POWER LEAK DETECTED IN THE MEMORY CORE
Flashed on the screen for no one to see it as Richard was simply sleeping.
WARNING: CHANGING POWER SOURCE TO EMERGENCY POWER SOURCE. A TEMPORARY POWER LOSS MIGHT HAPPEN.
The lights in the whole company's complex flickered as the power went down and after half a second came back, this time from the emergency source. The system needed to reboot now.

Richard smiled in his sleep and shifted in his chair. He dreamed that sort of dream when one doesn't quite remember what they dreamed about but they know it was a pleasant one.
He couldn't know that the price to pay for his rest was a real nightmare for The Newshape Shop's clients after they wake up...
