Now, Cupids didn't really have names (well, not like people have names), but this one in particular liked to be called Harry. And since the name is associated with men, this Cupid in question also liked to be thought of as male, even though Cupids didn't really have gender (which is why one was usually referred to as an "it", instead of "he" or "she"). So, for the duration of this story, this Cupid will be referred to as both Harry and a "he".
Harry smiled, looking over his handiwork. With another swift decision, he had turned an upstanding, conservative 55-year old grandmother into an insatiable slut of a 55-year old cougar who had her eyes only for young men. In particular, one man ... the man standing next to her, who now had a longing for older (but sexually active) women.
He watched (pleased with himself) as the "new" couple walked away together, but his enjoyment was short lived.
To the left and right of him, the air began to ripple ... and then a Cupid appeared on each side of him. The air directly ahead of him rippled and the Cupid that confronted him earlier appeared as well.
"You didn't listen to me," said the one that was there earlier. "In fact, you went ahead and changed the past for two more people. Turning a nice woman like Susanna into a tramp, and then making a boy less than half her age to be in love with her. Not to mention, the two women you turned into lesbians. This has to stop. You can't be allowed to continue."
"You don't get it, do you?" Harry said.
"What don't I get?"
"This is what we were meant for. To make people fall in love."
"Yes, but not like this. You are only supposed to make people who know each other ..."
"You think so small," Harry said, cutting off the other Cupid.
"Maybe. But I follow the rules. And rules exist for a reason." The Cupid nodded towards the other two and suddenly, Harry felt hands grabbing him on either side. He tried to struggle free, but he couldn't. "Sorry, but you have to be stopped before you do any more damage."
Then, in nearly a blink of an eye, all four Cupids disappeared.
But in their haste to leave, Harry's device (used to make people be in love with each other) was left behind.
