Alan watched as his husband swiftly walked back towards the car from Oliver's house. He was really looking forward to their special night out on the town. They didn't get to do it too often, as most people in this town were too homophobic and seemed to think that he and his husband were always trying to make a scene. But they were just in love. What was so wrong with that? They didn't seem to have a problem with a husband and wife kissing in public. So why did they have a problem with two husbands doing the same thing? One word: homophobic.
The driver's side door opened and there he was ... the love of his life.
Stuart got behind the wheel and shut his door, before turning towards Alan. He leaned over to him and kissed him, then said "Ready to go, sweetie?"
"You bet," Alan said.
Stuart started up the car and drove out onto the street, then took a left at the next intersection.
Everything was going fine. Stuart and Alan talked about their day and what they wanted to do on their night out on the town, then suddenly it happened.
Sometime later, Alan gained consciousness again. He could smell something burning. Or was it just a charred smell? He opened his eyes and saw the twisted metal around him and it took him a moment to realize what had happened. Slowly, he remembered the car that had hit them.
"Oh my god, are you okay?" a shrill and panicked woman's voice asked.
Alan turned and looked at the woman who was standing near the car. "Stuart. Is Stuart okay?"
"Is that the driver?"
Alan nodded.
The woman ran around the wrecked car and took a look. "I think he's still alive. Oh god, oh god. I-I'm so sorry. I didn't see your car. I ..."
"Just get us out of here," Alan said, feeling more clearheaded now. It seemed that the woman was more panicked than he was. He had to calm her down. "What's your name?" he asked her.
"Brenda," she said. "Brenda Livingston." That was the maiden name of Alan's wife in the previous reality. Coincidence? No, not really, because this woman was his wife from the previous reality. What were the chances that she would cause a car accident with Alan?
"Well, Brenda. You have to calm down, okay? We can deal with whoever's responsible for the crash later. Right now, you just need to calm down and get us out of here, okay?"
"O-okay," she said, sounding like she was calming down a bit.
"So much for a special night on the town," Alan muttered to himself.
"W-what happened?" Stuart's voice suddenly said.
"Honey, just stay still, okay?" Alan said. "We were in a car crash. Someone's here to help us out."
It was safe to say that Oliver wouldn't be able to change things back for a while, since Stuart and Alan were most likely to spend the next few days in the hospital.
