As Alan drove home, he wondered why his wife hadn't called him back. Was she not home? Where could she be? He worried that something bad might have happened to her. And to the truth, something bad did happen to her, but nothing like Alan thought or could even imagine. His wife and two daughters had been invited to a house belonging to a mind controller. They were there right now.
When he finally arrived to his house, he saw that his wife's car was still in the driveway, so she didn't leave the house. But when he walked inside, he saw that no one was home. If the car was still here, then where were they? Now he was getting a lot more worried.
But then he noticed a note by the phone. He picked it up and read it:
*Went to Oliver's house with the girls. Want to make a good impression for our new neighbor.

"Oliver?" Apparently, his wife had hit it off with their new neighbor. Normally, she would never refer to almost-strangers by their first name.
At least this informed him of where his family was. He decided to go over and join them. He hadn't yet met this Oliver, and from what he knew so far, he was eager to.
Although, if he really knew what Oliver was up to, he'd be eager to meet him for completely different reasons.
Alan left his house and walked over to the house across the street and to the left. Then he rang the doorbell.
