David did his best not to draw attention to himself as he drove. He kept the radio off, windows down, and obeyed every single traffic law he could remember. Getting to Dr. Miller's lab was number one priority and couldn't risk getting pulled over. His nerves tensed up and his heart was pounding harder and harder. Not wanting to look suspicious David took deep breaths and calmed down a bit. He glanced at the address he had scrawled down in a rush: 108 S. Chestnut Drive. A sense of relief washed over David, he remembered the lab, almost disguised as a well made house. It was only two stories high and barely filled the block. David parked and walked up to the door. Buzzing it gave a near instant response.

"Can I help you?" An older man spoke through the intercom.

"Um, is this Doctor Edward Miller?" David asked nervously. "My name is David Watson and I need your..."

BUZZ

David didn't finish his sentence since he immediately opened the door and rushed inside. The door closed itself and locked. No one was there to greet him, but looking inside everything seemed normal. The lab was completely empty, he found himself in the reception lobby without anyone to greet him.

"Come to the back, head downstairs." A voice over the PA announced. "Come fast."

The door in the lobby swung open. David spared not a single second and rushed down the hallway. Each of the rooms were locked and dark, it almost gave him an eerie feeling. Opening the door in the back of the hallway David found concrete stairs leading to a hidden basement. Inside were many working computers, the first sign of life in the entire building. Servers filled most of the place and wires haphazardly ran across the floor. David slowed his walk to avoid touching anything. At the other end of the basement David saw a figure, hunched over at a computer station. He had a strange fear, hesitating to approach whomever sat there. As he got closer the man at the computer turned his chair around. David saw it was indeed Dr. Miller, but appearing much older and deteriorated.

"Thank the Lord." Dr. Miller said. "I didn't think anyone would come here."

"Dr. Miller!" David said with relief. "You know what's happening, I need help!"

"Calm down, son." Dr. Miller spoke softly. "We're safe here."

"What? How?" David asked.

"I prepared for a day like this..." Dr. Miller said. "...but first, let's get something out of the way." He went back his computer and began typing. David eagerly waited but soon felt himself getting dizzy. His vision was fading and he collapsed right there and then.

Luckily he awoke just a few moments later, Dr. Miller offered him a hand and got him back on his feet. David was feeling much better, almost improved without an ache whatsoever.

"Sorry about that." Dr. Miller said. His old face worked into a smile. "It's something I needed to do. C'mon let's go upstairs, I'll explain on the way."

David wanted to ask questions but figured not to rush the man. He looked ragged as it is. The two walked out of the basement together.

"So I take it you're not here for an interview." The old man chuckled. David was hardly amused. "Ah, from the look of it, it's gotten bad outside."

"So you know?" David replied.

"Know?! HA! I predicted such a catastrophe." Dr. Miller remarked. "I'm just glad there's another able body who hasn't been contaminated yet."

"Contaminated?" David wondered.

"Let's step into my office. There's a lot I need to explain.."

The two of them walked into a dark room back on the first floor. Dr. Miller hit a light switch and revealed a rather lavish office. Miller went behind his desk and fell back into his recliner. "Boy that feels good on the back."

David was worried at how calm he was....
