David's eyes fluttered open when the sunlight reached his face. He sat up. He was still on the couch. What happened? He remembered watching TV... the plant opening... then things got weird. And that was it. Now it was morning. He looked around, Andy and his mom and dad were still there, sprawled on the furniture. Had they all blacked out or something?
David didn't feel groggy or out of sorts at all. In fact, he felt amazingly clear. Like he'd gotten a great night's sleep, even though he'd passed out on the couch in his parents' living room. His family was beginning to stir.
"What the hell was that?" Andy asked, suddenly seeming wide awake.
"I don't know," their dad said. "The power went out and then... I'm not sure."
"Is everybody okay?" their mom asked.
"Yeah," David said, "Actually... I feel pretty good." So did everybody else, apparently. But that didn't give them much comfort. Something had happened, presumably to the whole town. Denise got up and looked out the window. Outside, she saw a few people emerge from their homes and look around. They looked just as confused as the Watson family. But everything looked okay.
"What in the world happened last night?" she wondered aloud.
"I don't know" her husband Steven said. "But it looks like the power's back on. Maybe the news has something."
He picked up the remote and turned on the TV
