Laura slowly opened the door to the sedan and got in. Then she spent the next twenty minutes in a daze, her mind trying to cope with the fact that this was apparently her car, but also not. After a bit more time, her eyes drifted towards the passenger seat. Weren't the car seats made of felt? She could have sworn they were, when she entered the car, but now they weren't. They were leather. Laura preferred leather seats. Her real car, the one she remembered, had leather seats.
She shook her head, feeling disoriented again. Then her eyes fell upon the glove compartment. Hesitantly, she opened it and reached inside for the vehicle registration. Up until then, she still believed that someone had stolen her car and switched the license plates (probably so that it would be harder to track her car down), but when she looked at the vehicle registration and saw her name on it ... her signature on it ... she knew that that wasn't the case. She had no idea what was going on. It was like she had fallen into The Twilight Zone. Nothing made sense.
Laura glanced at herself in the rear view mirror and noticed that her eyes were brown. Were they that way before? She shook her head, feeling stupid. Of course they were that way. Why would she think otherwise?
She put the key in the ignition and started up the car, then she drove out of the parking lot and then towards home ... not even realizing that the car was still changing around her as she went. The paint on the car changed from gray to dark red (normally, that should be quite obvious, but she didn't notice) and the car itself became more aerodynamic and less generic. Also, her skin continued to grow darker and her clothing changed again, becoming a little more revealing and definitely tighter.
It was almost 1:30 pm by then, so her daughter wouldn't be home for another two and a half hours (remember that Nadine had a study session with her friends Tina Shepard and Paul Anderson after school that day). So she intended on doing a bit of housework until either Nadine or her husband Roger came home.
