The front door opened and in walked Jane's daughter Zoe, completely decked out in her gothic clothes, as usual. And behind her were her Goth friends Athena DeVries and Zelda Whitefield.
Zoe looked at her mother, who was standing in the living room, looking quite startled and nervous.
"Mom?" Zoe asked. "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing," she answered, maybe a bit too quickly.
Zoe and her friends noticed that Jane was hiding something behind her back. "What do you have behind your back?" she asked.
"It doesn't concern you," her mother said, almost snapping at her. "Now mind your own business and go do whatever you were going to do with your friends."
Zoe didn't like it when her mom bossed her around, so she definitely wanted to make an issue about this. But her mom actually gave her permission to hang out with her friends, even though Jane didn't quite approve of the people she hung out with. Something definitely odd was going on here. But should she urge her mom to tell her, or just do as her mom said and head up to her bedroom with her friends?
