"Miller!"
Chris sat bolt upright in his chair and turned towards the voice. It was Greg Stevenson, the assistant manager.
"Get back to work," he told Chris.
"Okay, okay," he answered, then looked back at his computer monitor.
Greg gave him an annoyed glance, then continued walking among the cubicles. When Chris was sure that Greg was far enough away, he turned back to the clock. Just get to five already! It was almost there. Just another twenty minutes. Come on, just do it! Do it so that he could go home and forget about his boring life!
"Mail," a voice said, breaking him out of his gaze at the clock. He turned his head and saw a man holding a package out to him. It wasn't too big, maybe a foot in width and about nine inches in height. He wasn't expecting any packages, but he took it anyway. Maybe it would get his mind off of that clock and give him something to do other than work.
There was a small label on it, addressed to him. Besides his name, it also said "Happy Birthday". (A birthday present? It was his birthday, a week ago. Maybe it was just late.) Although, Chris wasn't too "happy" about this particular birthday. It was his 30th. But a present was a present. Maybe it was a million dollars. He could only hope. A sum of money like that would certainly get him out of his mundane life. It could even help him score a girlfriend.
With no more hesitation, Chris opened the package.
