Susan opened the front door and stared at the girl standing outside. It was one of those freaky gothic girls. This one was wearing a tattered black dress, red corset, fishnet gloves, and black leather choker with a pentagram dangling beneath it. Her hair was long and dyed black with red streaks and her makeup was dark and haunting, while her skin was nearly pale white.
The girl smiled at Sarah's mother. It looked eerie. "My name is Athena DeVries. I'm here to see Sarah."
Susan was speechless. What did this girl want with her daughter?
"I'm sorry," Susan said finally. "I don't think my daughter ..."
But Athena moved past her anyway and headed into the house, then up the stairs. Why didn't Susan stop her?
By the time Susan turned around to tell the gothic girl to stop and leave the house, Athena was already up the stairs. Susan had no idea why she let the girl in the house. It was almost as if she were momentarily unable to move.
Sarah was freaking out. She didn't know what was happening to her, why she was talking so unlike herself whenever she opened her mouth to say something.
Suddenly, there was a knock at her bedroom door. Thinking it was her mother, she wanted to tell her to leave her alone, but she feared what she would say if she tried to talk.
She waited, hoping that the person in the hall would just give up and go away by themselves, but that didn't happen. There was just more knocking.
Taking a deep breath, she opened the door. But it wasn't her mother. Instead it was that Goth freak from school, the one that dressed like a witch - Athena DeVries.
Athena smiled. "Hello, Sarah."
"Hey, Athena. What's up?" Sarah said pleasantly. Her eyes went wide. When talking to her mother and her friend Tiffany, she spoke angrily, but to Athena (a girl she hated - she hated all the Goths), she spoke as if they were friends. What was happening to her?!
