Reaching under his bed (where he kept a lot of his private things, like valuables and porn magazines), Jon pulled out his inheritance, which was the title of ownership of a piece of land five miles north of Lake Point.
Jon knew that his grandfather had owned that land and also the cabin and pond that sat on it. He remembered going there when he was younger during summer break. It was the closest thing his grandfather had for a home, since he was usually traveling the world on his expeditions. And now, it seemed, he had left his property to Jon. It wasn't too shabby. Three acres. Most of it was woods, but it was out of the way - a good place to go for privacy.
But it still shocked Jon that his grandfather would leave the ownership of the land to him and not his mom, who was his grandfather's daughter. He shrugged, looking at the deed to the land. Momentarily, he lifted it and then noticed something odd. When he held it up to the sunlight coming though his window, he noticed lines and words that he hadn't seen on the piece of paper when he looked at it normally. The lines and words were faded, but they were definitely there. He looked closer at them and realized that it was a map.
Maybe a treasure map? Jon thought, his imagination running away with him. He shook his head, feeling a little childish. But then again, his grandfather was an archeologist. Perhaps there was something to this afterall.
But he couldn't do anything about it right now. It was a school night and he didn't think his mom would let him go off on a trip like that, especially if he didn't say where he was going. No, he'd probably have to wait until the weekend.
