Zoe hesitated at the bottom of the stairs. Then she turned around and slowly climbed them again. "By the way, what's your name?" she said.
Jon knew that saying 'Jon' wouldn't be very good. What was a name that begins with J? How about Jessica. "I'm Jessica. Jessica Madison," replied Jon. Too late, she realized her mistake: giving her real last name wasn't a very good idea.
"Say what?" replied Zoe. She examined Jon's face and clothes. "That's pretty unlikely. Unless you're my cousin or something."
"Er, yeah, I'm your cousin."
"If you're my cousin, what are the names of your parents?"
"They're, well, something you wouldn't know."
"Try me," grumbled Zoe.
"Jonathan and Martha."
"What the fuck?" said Zoe. "You're making that up. That's from Smallville. Obviously you never expected anyone to ask you that question. Yet you do look a lot like me. Tell me what's going on."
"No, I have to go," said Jon and backed away. However, she couldn't very well go down the stairs with Zoe in the way. Jon finally turned around and ran for his room, entered, and locked the door. She was still thinking about how to safely jump down from the second floor window when there was a jiggling sound from the door and Zoe opened it wide, a hairpin stuck in the little hole in the middle of the knob.
"Stay out of my room, Zoe!" she yelled, in that strange feminine-pitched voice.
"I don't know who you are, but this isn't your room. I wonder what Jon thinks about you stealing his clothes."
"Look, Zoe," she said, "I am Jon. I got a bracelet from Grandpa's inheritance. I figured it was worth thousands of dollars in gold but it also... did something to me."
"Did something? Are you expecting me to believe you're Jon and you turned into a girl?" asked Zoe. "Who's going to fall for that?"
"How can I prove it to you?"
"Oh, let me see..." said Zoe.
