"I don't have time for this," the Goth boy (who use to be Jon's sister Zoe) said. "I need to go meet up with Karyn."
"Karyn? Why would you be meeting with Karyn?" Jon asked.
"What the fuck is it to you? I can meet up with anyone I like, especially my friends."
"Karyn is your friend?" What was going on here? "Since when?"
The Goth boy looked oddly at Jon. Then shook his head and pushed past him.
"Wait. What's going on?" Jon asked, spinning around towards his (her?) new brother. But the Goth boy just ignored him and walked down the stairs in quite a hurry. By the time Jon made it to the stairs, his new brother was just leaving the house.
Why was he friends with Karyn? Why was Karyn friends with him? Karyn didn't like Goths. And then there was the age difference. It was only two years, but still ...
Could it be because of the gender difference? Karyn only had three friends, and all of them (including Jon) were guys. Maybe since Jon was a girl now ...
Suddenly, he had a thought. The reason he and Karyn became such good friends was because they both lived close by each other and their parents were close friends. Could it be that in this new reality (and it was painfully clear now that this was indeed a new reality) Karyn became friends with his new brother instead of him, just because of gender? He didn't even want to think about what Karyn was like now.
Jon's thoughts spun, thinking of how everything about his life could be completely different now, just because of this small change.
"Jenna!" he heard his mother yell from downstairs. "Your friends are here."
Was that his name now? Jenna? He briefly wondered what Zoe's name was now, before heading down the stairs.
