Reaching under his bed (where he kept a lot of his private things, like valuables and porn magazines), Jon pulled out his inheritance, which was a small painting. It looked like it was painted almost 200 years ago, yet the picture itself could only have been imagined sometime sooner. A lot sooner.
It showed a pale girl with black hair wearing a black dress and holding a small crystal pendant necklace in her hand.
The day before, it showed two figures (a boy and a girl) sitting on a wall. It was obvious that the boy and girl were himself and Karyn. And when he saw Karyn that day, she was dressed exactly the same as she was in the picture.
As strange as it sounded, it seemed that this painting was able to show the future. And what it was showing right now was Athena DeVries, the best friend of his Goth sister Zoe. At least, that's what he figured the painting was showing him. But what did the picture mean? And what was with that pendant necklace dangling from her hand? Was he going to meet with her? He didn't see himself in the painting. All the different pictures he had seen so far (there was a new one every day, ever since he received the painting through the mail) had him in the picture. But not this one. What did that mean?
Suddenly, there was a knock on his door, breaking him out of his thoughts. He stashed away the painting and went to answer the door.
