Angela blinked. She was home? How did she get here? She tried to think and came up empty. She vaguely remembered something about a note and needing to be somewhere, but that memory was quickly fading. And was quickly being replaced by another one. She came home the way she always did - in her car.
She slowly walked further into the house and saw her daughter Allison walk into the living room. "Mom? Where were you? I thought you'd be home before me and David got back."
Angela drew a blank. What time was it? She turned and saw that it was past five o'clock. She usually left work and came straight home at around 3:30, so where was she for over an hour?
"I ..." she began, and as she did, new memories emerged in her mind. "I ... I just stayed late. I had some things I needed to do. You know, work stuff." It was true, she realized. There was some paperwork that needed to be filled out. She couldn't exactly remember what the paperwork was for or why she needed to stay late to fill it out, but she just knew that that was why she was late getting home.
"Well, maybe next time you should call home. I was kind of worried," Allison said.
"Only kind of?" Angela asked, half joking.
Allison smiled weakly, then went about with what she was doing.
Angela headed to her bedroom.
