"Is that really an ocean out there?" asked Melissa.
"Yeah," Dawn said. "I don't know how it's possible. But yeah, it is."
All of the customers, by this time, were looking out of the windows. Ted was still getting stoned in the restroom, not even aware that anything had changed. But Sydney was already outside, so she definitely noticed that something was different.
She looked down at the water beneath her feet, amazed that she wasn't falling into it. She hesitantly stood up and put her diary aside. Then she walked out from under the back porch that was used for deliveries.
She kept walking, looking at the never-ending ocean, which stretched to the horizon. But once she got ten feet from the building, she suddenly fell into the water.
Sydney didn't know how to swim, so she called out for help.
