Jen sighed as she ducked into her room. Not her old room, but a former guest room that now had her new personal affects all over it. She finally changed out of her work clothes and into pajamas. An old t-shirt and blue striped pants. Bra off, and she resolved that she would never give any of the women in her life a hard time over having to wear one again once she got back to normal. She sat on her bed, head back and looking up at the ceiling. She was exhausted, and she wondered idly if she had inherited the tiredness of the real Jen, as much as there was a real Jen.
A knock on her door pulled her from her thoughts. "Yes?"
"Can I come in?" Zoe's voice.
"Sure, come on in."
Zoe opened the door and ducked inside. She was wearing very similar pajamas to what Jen now wore. A t-shirt she had gotten at a camp a year before and the same style of pants. Jen had both a pair for each of them for Christmas this past year. She smiled as she saw her. "This is embarrassing, one of us is going to have to change."
"Shut up," Zoe said, rolling her eyes. She couldn't fight the slight smile that appeared completely, though. "Can I hang out in here for a bit?"
"Sure," Jen said, her eyebrows raising. "Why, what's up?"
"Tonight was... not super fun," Zoe said, sitting on the bed. "Mike's a dick. He's not... not like you were."
"Like how I was?" Jen asked, accusing tone in her voice.
"You know what I mean," Zoe said, defensive. "He's an ass. We ordered pizza and he let me get two slices before he took the rest to his room and locked himself away. Two whole pizzas just for him? What the hell?"
"I wonder if he was stress eating because he knew Linda wasn't going to hear good things at the conferences..." Jen offered.
"I think he's just a dick. And I can tell you for a fact that the Zoe of this world agrees with me. And she doesn't have positive memories of Linda either. Guess her just being my aunt doesn't change her being a bitch."
"What the language, Zoe," Jen said. "We're still living under her roof."
"This Zoe was counting down the days until that wasn't true anymore."
"Yeah, well... Pretty sure Jen knew that and felt bad because it wasn't going to be anytime soon. On the flip side, we have a month living like this until we can go back to how things are supposed to be."
Zoe was quiet for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah. Anyway, Mike's in his room listening to some crappy rock music and I could hear it through the wall. I know from my new memories that he won't just turn it down if I ask, so can I hang out in here?"
"Of course. We can pop on a movie and watch that for a bit, okay? And I can talk to Linda about the noise. Maybe take his sound system away for being a crappy student."
"Would be nice," Zoe said, climbing more onto the bed and lying down. Jen turned on the TV and started looking through apps until she found something the two of them agreed was worth watching, then she laid back too. Zoe moved closer, resting her head on Jen who wrapped an arm around her. It was normal for them, even if it hadn't been for Jon and Zoe. Something they had done since Zoe was a little girl and they had watched Disney movies like this. It was nice, nostalgic. Jen didn't even realize when her exhaustion caught up with her and she nodded off.
