"Is this like one of those role playing games?" Charlie asked. He had never played any of them, but he had heard that they were really popular.
"No, it's more like an FPS," the guy said.
"That's first-person shooter," the girl clarified.
"So, you just pick up guns and shoot aliens?" Charlie asked.
"Yeah, but there's more to it than that," the guy said.
"Like what?"
The guy rose his hands in the air and spun around. "This is an alien planet. A completely artificial environment, but one that obeys the rules of physics. At least, the physics that are allowed. It's science fiction. So anything that could happen (in, say, a sci-fi movie) could happen here. Aliens, spaceships, futuristic weapons, you name it. No one knows all that can happen, though. The makers of the game want to keep a little bit of mystery to it."
"Okay, but isn't there usually a story?" Charlie asked.
"Yeah, but not for this," the girl said. "The environment is the same, but every game is different. This increases the replay value and keeps people coming back for more."
"But there's at least a goal, right?"
"Sure. Beat the bad guys," the guy said.
"And who are they?"
Both the guy and the girl shrugged.
"You don't know?"
"Like I said, every game is different," the girl said.
"How many times have you done this?" Charlie asked.
"I did it once already," the guy said. "This is Amy's first time." He paused for second. "I'm sorry, we didn't introduce ourselves. My name is Matt and this is my girlfriend Amy."
"Hi," Amy said, waving.
"I'm Charlie."
"Okay, now since that's done, I think maybe we should get to the first objective," Matt said.
"Lead the way," Charlie said.
