"Steven, I'm scared," a woman said.
"Don't be. I'm here with you. I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."
"But what if they come back?"
"Then I'll take care of them."
"Can't we just leave?" the woman asked.
"No. I'm not leaving. This is my home and ..."
Charlie crept into the room to get a little better look, but when he did, he accidentally knocked something off a desk, sending pencils and pens scattering across the floor.
"What was that?" the woman cried.
Charlie froze. He wasn't sure if he could trust these people yet. They might try and hurt him. What was he going to do?
