Charlie looked around, trying to see if he knew where he was. With all that happened, he never got a chance to just stop and look.
It was the corner of Fourth and Main. At least he was still in Los Angeles. But which Los Angeles? Was this his L.A., or was it a different one, like the empty one he woke up in? It seemed like his, but he wasn't totally sure.
He just had too many questions. But knowing that he was in L.A. helped. Perhaps he could find someone that he knew. It was a big town, but being an insurance salesman, Charlie knew people.
"Vanessa?" a girl asked. Charlie knew that voice. It belonged to Lisa, one of Vicky's friends. But why was she calling him Vanessa?
He turned around. "Uh ... yeah?"
"What are you doing standing there? I thought you were on your way home," Lisa said.
"Aren't you wondering where Cindy and Susie are?"
"Who? Vanessa, I don't know anyone by those names."
What happened? Did everyone's memories change? Did no one remember Cindy and Susie? Were they gone, forever to be merged with Vicky? What about their parents and families? How could something like this even happen. It was impossible, right? Reality couldn't just change like that.
"Are you feeling alright, Vanessa?" Lisa asked.
"Yeah," Charlie lied. He most definitely was not alright.
"Then, come on."
"Where are we going?" Charlie asked.
"Well, since you're obviously not going home, I thought we'd go ..."
