As soon as the door opened, Charlie saw Julie reach in and grab his hand.
"I said not to ..." He braced himself, as their skin made contact. But instead of the suction sensation that he expected, he felt as if he was being contorted. That meant that the sky was red and ...
He looked down at his new body. It was a mix between Julie and her mother. They no longer existed. This new 20-something girl had taken their place.
"Sally? Are you done using the bathroom?" a girl asked from down the hall.
Charlie walked in that direction and saw a college-aged girl lying on a bed, listening to her mp3 player.
She stopped the music and looked up at Charlie. "Oh, there you are."
"Why are you here?" As far as he could tell, only the mother and her daughter lived in the apartment, so who was this girl?
"Because I live here? Did you bump your head or something? We've only been roommates for over a year now."
"Never mind," Charlie said. Then he walked into what he assumed was Sally's bedroom.
Out of all the changes that could happen, the merging effect was the most devastating to the fabric of reality. Now since Julie and her mother were one person (Sally), Charlie wondered who Sally's parents were. How much of reality was changed by all of this? Was it limited to just L.A., or was it across the entire world?
Of course, these were all trivial issues for Charlie, who fully intended on getting out of this girl's body as soon as possible, before he made things worse.
