Charlie couldn't risk leaving the bathroom. There were no windows in there. He had no idea if the sky was colored at the moment. What if it was red? If he opened the door and the daughter touched him, the mother would be forced to merge with the daughter, thus destroying two more lives. No, it was better just to stay in the bathroom.
