Charlie reached for the door, to enter the library. But before he could, he heard someone scream and then two shots were fired off.
He turned around and saw a man with a gun, just down the street. He rushed in that direction to get a better look, forgetting that because he was a cop, the gunman would likely try to shoot him, more than anyone else.
And that's exactly what happened.
At first, Charlie wasn't sure what was going on. Maybe it was the shock of the situation, or maybe something else, but when he looked down at his bleeding shirt, he slowly came to the realization that he had been shot.
Then, breaking Charlie out of his dazed realization, another shot rang out, sending Charlie flailing to the ground.
Through blurred vision, he saw the gunman walk towards him and spit on him, then he ran away.
A crowd formed around Charlie and then he blacked out.
