Charlie turned around and reached out his hand towards the cop.
The cop, thinking that Charlie wanted to thank him by shaking his hand, reached out with his own hand.
But right before Charlie's hand made contact, the sky suddenly turned an eerie green color. Then a second later, it was back to normal. As Charlie looked around, trying to see if anyone noticed the sky changing color, the cop shook his hand. What brought his focus back to the cop wasn't the cop shaking his hand, but rather the fact that he didn't hop into the cop's body.
"No need to thank me. I'm just doing my job," the cop said. He let go of Charlie's hand and moved off.
"Mom? Are you okay?" Julie asked.
What happened? Why didn't he go into the cop's body? And what was with the sky turning green?
"Didn't anyone notice the sky?" he whispered to himself.
"Mom, what are you talking about?" Julie asked.
Charlie looked around. Everyone just went about their business as if everything was normal. Someone must have seen it. It went all the way to the horizon.
"Mom," Julie said, grabbing Charlie's hand. "Let's go home."
Charlie looked down at the girl. She was touching him, but nothing was happening. His ability to hop bodies didn't stop until ... after the sky turned green. Could it be that it was affecting him in some way? And why was he the only one that saw it?
"Mom, I want to go home," Julie said.
