Emily Harris felt as though she were 80 years old. After the doctor came into the exam room it took all the help they could muster to get her up on the exam table. Emily was finding it very difficult to bend her fingers, they were getting stiff and they refused to separate. She was having even more difficulty benting her elbows, they just felt stiff.
The doctor examined her, asked her numerous questions about her food intake, weight gain, the texture of her skin and hair, wrote her a perscription for pain relievers, then went to find help to get her off the table. He instructed the nurse to weigh Emily on the way out the door. The nurse returned to the room with another nurse.
"Her weight has jumped to 250 pounds in just the time she was in here. I had Julie here double check the scale."
"I rook some samples and will send them to the lab. I'm really concerned."
None of them saw the trouble Emily had as she waddled across the parking lot and spent 30 minutes trying to get into her van.
