Maybe when then do get access to it and the first wish to fix everything fails , Jon out of frustration says something like "I wish I knew why I cannot fix this."
Then in his head he hears a voice repeating the wish of the sphinx (possibly in a different voice then the sphinx due to the 2nd wish)
