Chris picked up the phone, intending to call his ex-wife Natalie. She lived just across town and was probably the only person that could help him (mainly since she was a woman), despite their less-than-spectacular relationship. She was the one that called for the divorce. Of course, it all worked out for Chris. He was still doing the same thing as he was before, except now he wasn't cheating on anyone.
"Hello?" a woman's voice asked on the other end.
"Natalie?"
"Chris? Why are you calling here?"
"I need help. I'm in a real bind here."
"Solve it yourself. I'm not your wife anymore."
"Wait! Don't hang up."
"Chris, I don't have time for ..."
"This is an emergency. Please. I really need your help."
She paused for a moment. Chris had never pleaded for help before. "Okay. But make it quick."
"You have to come here."
She sighed. "Chris ..."
"You have to. This isn't something I can do over the phone."
She paused again. "Okay, fine. But I can only stay for a few minutes. Dave will wonder where I am. And I don't want to tell him I was visiting you." Dave was Natalie's new husband.
"Okay, okay. Fine. Just get here as soon as possible."
She hung up, not even saying good-bye.
