P.L. sat down in one of the pews, while the priest gave her a cup of water.
"Thank you, Father. It's quite warm outside."
"Yes, it is." He paused for a moment, watching P.L. drink her water. "You know, I never caught your name."
"It's Priscilla Lorraine, but my friends call me P.L.," she answered, then continued to drink the water.
The priest was fascinated by her. He couldn't quite explain it, but he could even say that he was attracted to her. She had a sort of sweet innocence that most girls her age lacked.
She looked up at him and caught him staring at her. "Is there something wrong, Father?"
"Huh?" He shook his gaze away. "No, my dear. I was just ..." He paused for a moment. "You're a very sweet girl, P.L."
"Thank you, Father."
It was odd, but he actually thought that he was falling in love with her, which was awkward for him since he was almost forty and she looked to be in her mid-twenties. But it was true. He was falling in love with her.
"I love you," he whispered. "I don't know why, but I do." He tried to keep it to himself, but he couldn't keep it a secret any longer.
He thought that she'd be turned off, but he was surprised when she retained her sweet girl attitude and said "I know, Father. I love you, too. You're the kind of man I've been waiting for all my life."
"And you're the kind of woman I've been waiting for all my life."
He still couldn't believe he was saying these things. He only met P.L. less than a half an hour ago!
P.L. stood up and grabbed the priest's hand. "Let's go make sweet love to each other," she said happily.
He was about to accept, he really was. But the whole situation seemed wrong to him. And he wasn't the type of person who immediately had sex after just meeting a woman, let along having sex at all. No, there was something else going on here.
"I'm sorry, P.L., but I can't."
She wasn't mad, just a little disappointed. "I see. I'm not pretty enough."
"No, no. You're very pretty. It's just that ... in my line of work ..."
"I understand, Father. It was wrong of me to suggest anything." She let go of his hand and walked towards the church exit. "But if you change your mind, my address is 2143 Harvey Avenue, Apartment 2C." Then she left, leaving the priest to wonder if maybe he had made a mistake.
