Jon nodded to Athena, "I'll do it. It'll be strange but the fate of the world is more important."
Athena smiled warmly, "I knew you had the soul of a hero, and soon you'll have the body to match. Now, this realm is a place where time stands still, but when I send you back the wish will take effect, so I'd like to walk you through what is going to happen before we do."
Athena waved her hand and the holoprojector whirred back to life, displaying a red, blue and gold shining breastplate, a golden lasso, silver bracelets, red and white armored boots and a golden tiara. "These will be your rainments, each piece forged by Hephaestus and blessed by the gods. In your day to day life you will merely wear the bracelets and by clanging them together the rest of your armor will appear, swapping with whatever you were wearing." Jon nodded along, compartmentalizing the fact his gender was about to change, and focusing on the superhero stuff.
"Your form will be modeled on the great Amazon Hippolyta, who has agreed to train you in the art of combat once the connection stabilizes enough for you to journey to our realm." A dark haired beauty spun in the hologram and Jon tried to picture what it would feel like to inhabit a body like that. "Our godly might will grant you incredible strength, durability, the power to soar through the skies and dive through the depths. Other gifts also accompany you but you should discover them as you experiment. However, to accommodate you taking this new form, we shall use the magic of the stone to make certain shifts to the world around you."
Athena looked a little chagrined, "Obviously, with your new appearance you can no longer live the life of Jon Gibson. Instead you will be known as Diana Prince. We have crafted an identity for you as a young graduate, recently hired by Lake Valley Academy as their new history teacher, so you will still have a connection to your home if you wish it. Diana Prince's degrees are in archaeology and antiquity, so you have some reasonable cover if you are heard to be discussing the gods in your civilian guise."
Jon worked his jaw a bit, "So I won't be part of my family..." Athena gave a small frown, "Unfortunately no. Your ideal form is too disparate from Linda or Roger Gibson's to be a sister or even a cousin. However, you could be the younger sister of Alyssa Black if you wish, as that would be plausible, maintaining a connection to your friend."
"I'd be Karyn's Aunt? I think I'd like that, if that's possible" He'd be losing his familial ties, but Karyn was easily the most important person in his life. Actually becoming her family was actually an attractive prospect.
"Then it will be done. Alyssa Black is now Alyssa Prince, and you shall be her kid sister. Additional aspects of your life will be discussed as they arise. Whenever you sleep, you can journey here to consult your patrons. My brethren are quite eager to meet you." Jon blushed slightly at the idea of being an object of interest for literal gods.
"The last thing to know before we begin your transformation, is a warning. In your very city, lives a girl ironically named for myself, Athena Devries. I'm sure Adam would roll in his grave to have one of his descendants named for the gods. She is magically gifted. At the moment it is dormant due to the lack of magic in your world, but as magic begins to flow again, she could gain power. I do not wish to condemn her for the actions of her ancestor, but it is best to be wary." Jon realized why Adam had seemed familiar; even after centuries there was a family resemblance.
"I wish you well, Jon. No, I wish you well Diana. I shall see you tomorrow night to discuss how your blessing has gone." As Athena spoke, fog whirled around Jon and he was cast back into the mortal realm.
