The next day Linda let Jon take charge of her Prius despite her misgivings, dropping her off at McMillan Industries where she worked as a comptroller in their finance department. Her coworkers gave her the curious glance at her teenagers dropping her off, but shrugged it off figuring the kids needed to use the car while she was at work for some reason. It was a bit embarrassing at the end of the day when she had to wait on the curb by her office to be picked up, like a child in a car line. She resolved to talk to her kids about reversing the car arrangement after they got home. Jon drove and Zoe sat in the passenger seat, navigating; the two previously bickering siblings were now remarkably in sync.
Linda's plan to protest their driving arrangements were interrupted when she discovered Ms. Fine sitting in the family dining room, sipping tea when they arrived home. Idly she momentarily thought it was odd for the cleaning lady not to be cleaning but the thought escaped her mind after Ms. Fine invited them to sit down and have a cup.
Linda blinked and suddenly looked out the window to see the setting sun, somehow hours had passed when she wasn't paying attention. "So don't you think Jon and Zoe should be rewarded for the greater responsibility they've been taking on?" Ms. Fine asked. Linda stuttered for a moment, confused about what they'd been discussing, before nodding. It made sense, Jon and Zoe had really been stepping up, they deserved a reward. "So you agree it makes sense for them to have the master bedroom, while you take Zoe's old room?" Linda furrowed her brow. Had she agreed to that? She must have.
"Yeah, that makes sense, they should get the bigger room, but I guess I'll need to go move all my clothes." That was going to be a pain, Zoe's little closet was much smaller than her own walk in. "Oh no, don't you remember dear. You agreed to exchange wardrobes with Jon and as an apology for not going shopping with them yesterday. Jon's going to take your clothes, and you'll use Jon's until you make good on your promise to go shopping."
"Wait, why would I-" Ms. Fine cut in. "You agree that you have the nicest wardrobe right? And you need to apologize for worrying your Jon and Zoe the other day? So it only makes sense to give them the nicer outfits. In fact, you should probably give Jon what you're wearing now." Linda nodded, her mind foggy, before going along with Ms. Fine's suggestion. Soon Jon was wearing her red scoop neck blouse and short black skirt. His height boosted by her work heels and her pea coat completing the look. Meanwhile she had stretched his old tee shirt over her form and squeezed into his jeans. It was uncomfortable, but she need to show she was committed to apologizing. Jon smiled at his new outfits before going out to re park his Prius so he wasn't blocking Ms. Fine into the driveway. Linda really wished she had a car of her own.
