Suddenly, a voice from an intercom got Jack's attention. "Jack Morris, paging Jack Morris. Please return to the front desk. There has been an error with your results."
Jack didn't like the sound of that. An error with his results? That could only mean one thing, right? That he'd have to relive his previous life and get it right before he could proceed on to the next life. While he didn't mind going back to his old life, he was kind of getting used to the idea that he'd have a new one, whatever it would be.
"Jack Morris," the voice said again.
Sighing, Jack stood up and walked back towards the door that was locked just moments earlier. It opened, letting him back into the Canteen. Then, as he left the room, the door that lead back to the front desk opened. Beyond it, he could see the woman he first talked to when he arrived in the afterlife. She was looking directly at him and making a "come here" gesture with her forefinger.
Sighing again, he walked back into the front desk room, feeling the same way he felt in elementary school when he was asked to come to the principal's office. He definitely portrayed the look of someone who was in big trouble. And some people in the Canteen noticed and recognized it.
After he entered the room, the door behind him swooshed closed.
"Take a seat, Mr. Morris," the woman said.
