When Jack opened his eyes, he found himself in a busy urban street. Cars and trucks zoomed past him at dizzying speeds. But none of the drivers seemed to notice that he was there. When he looked down at himself, though, he understood why.
He wasn't there. Well, actually, he was there and not there at the same time. He could feel himself move but he couldn't see or hear himself. It was like he was invisible. Then a thought occurred to him - maybe he was a ghost.
It made sense. He didn't select any parameters for his new body, so he didn't get one. And what was a bodiless soul? A ghost. And that was exactly what he was.
But how long would he stay like this? Was there any way back? He hoped that the people in charge of the after life knew how to fix this. But what if they didn't? Or couldn't?
Jack looked around and waited for the cars to get out of the way, so that he could get off the road. But then he thought, why bother? He was a ghost now. He could just walk through solid objects, right?
So, after a bus zoomed by, he walked towards the sidewalk.
