"I'm afraid that you're pregnant."
"But, but, that's impossible," said Kim. "I haven't had sex with a guy in months! I would have noticed pregnancy before now if I had!"
"That's what I want to talk to you about," said Dr. Marsh. "The results show that you are definately pregnant, but many other aspects are... odd. I've only seen these results one or two other times. I'd like to run a few more tests, ask a few more questions, just to make sure that my data is correct. And I feel it would be better for the two of us if we discussed this in person rather than over the phone."
Kim made an appointment for later that week. When she arrived for the appointment, she got in almost right away. Dr. Marsh performed a few more tests, including genetic testing. Then she sat Kim down and began asking questions.
"Now you say that you haven't had sex with a man for months," said Dr. Marsh. "Exactly how many months would you say since you had your last sexual experience?"
"I don't know," said Kim. "Five or six. If I were pregnant, I would have known long before now."
"Yes," said Dr. Marsh. "Have you had any other sexual experiences since then? Any at all?"
Kim was suddenly scared. She didn't want to mention that in front of the doctor. Besides, it would have been impossible for her to get pregnant from that. "Why," she stammered. "Does it matter?"
"Yes, it could be very important. Your reports don't show the presence of testicles or other organs that could have manufactured sperm, so self-fertilization is out." Then, Dr. Marsh, noticing how nervous Kim looked, said, " Don't worry. I'm a very open minded woman. I won't judge you. Remember, I am a doctor and I'm asking this to help you."
"Promise?" asked Kim. Dr. Marsh nodded. "Well, for the past few months, I've been having sex with... horses." Kim's eyes started to tear up. "It started out as a dare. We were drunk. I think that I'm the only one who remembers it, otherwise it would be all over town. Then I found out that I liked it. I've been doing it as much as possible without getting caught. But I couldn't be pregnant by a horse, could I? It's impossible, isn't it?"
"Not necessarily as impossible as you think," said Dr. Marsh. "I told you I'd seen these results once or twice before. Hopefully the results will confirm what I suspect." Dr. Marsh asked a few more questions, how many horses she had slept with and how often she had slept with them. Soon after, they got the results back.
"You might want to sit down, Kim," said Dr. Marsh. Kim suddenly felt weak in the knees. She sat down, expecting the worst. "You are pregnant, Kim, and the baby is a perfectly healthy baby horse."
Kim nearly fainted. Dr. Marsh sat down next to her and put her arm around Kim's shoulders. "Its hard to take in, isn't it?" she asked.
"And how would you know?" sobbed Kim.
"You said that you slept with a horse named Treasure most, right?" asked Dr. Marsh. Kim nodded. "Our reports say that hes the father of your baby. You ask how I know its hard to take this in? I know this because... he fathered my baby too."
