The limousine stopped in front of Athena's apartment building. Akane, Karyn, Sarah, and Zoe waited while Athena ran up to her apartment. The elevator was broken and had been for some months now. Opening the front door to the small two bedroom apartment she shared with her Aunt Crystal who had received authority over and responsibility for Athena after she was rescued from her mother and step-father. Opening a canvas satchel with a bunch of patches haphazardly sewn on (which she purchased from the thrift store) she threw a box of strange smelling incense, some colored chalk, and a box of trick birthday candles that relight themselves. After a moment's hesitation she added a box of salt and snapped the satchel shut.
Out of breath, Athena slid across the hood of the limo Dukes of Hazard style and flopped back into her seat panting like a fish out of water. "Elevator still broken?" Sarah asked and received a nod from Athena in reply. "Samuel, back to the estate please." Sarah spoke into the intercom. The limousine slipped easily into traffic and headed towards Sarah's home in one of the wealthier parts of the town built on top of a hill overlooking downtown.
Entering Sarah's bedroom carrying snacks, the girls kicked off their shoes, boots, and other assorted footwear and luxuriated in the incredibly deep and thick carpeting. Athena looked into her bag as Sarah balanced a Cheese-Doodle on her nose. Sarah was startled into losing her doodle-focus when Athena started rooting through her satchel in a panic. "Its all gone! The incense is gone! The candles have been burnt to nubs! The container of salt is half-empty and the chalk has been used!" Zoe gently but firmly grabbed Athena's shoulders. "Okay! Focus! So the stuff you brought from home was all used up? That doesn't make any sense. How and when did it get used?"
Because sometimes the laws of narrativity must be obeyed, four of the girls received a video file on their smartphones and in Athena's case on her tablet.
