Jim and Matt strolled along the paved walkway through the park, each one taking a chug from their drinks every few feet.
"Wow, this place is HUGE now! It's almost like it's a state by itself," said Matt.
"Yeah, but it's all just the same old stuff over and over again. I mean, do they really need all of those swingsets? They have enough for every kid within 100 miles of here."
Just then, Matt spotted a roped off area of land just on the horizon.
"See that, they aren't even done adding on to the park. They still have some forest to cut down." Matt pointed to the large wooded area to their left.
"Yeah, I see it. I say we deviate from the pavement and take a hike in the woods. At least we won't see anymore swingsets in there."
Jim walked off the paved walkway and headed toward the forest.
"But they have it roped off, I don't think they want people to go into the woods," yelled Matt from the walkway. Seeing that this did not deter his brother he ran after him.
"Yeah, but it's just roped off. If they really wanted people to stay out then they would have put a chainlink fence around it," yelled Jim back at his brother, who was already at his side again instead of on the pavement. Jim looked down and continued: "It's just roped off so that if someone goes in there and gets hurt then they can't sue the park. The park will just say that the area was clearly roped off because it wasn't safe and that the man was negligent for ignoring it. It's just a legal thing."
"Oh," replied Matt, not wanting to be a wet blanket, especially now that his brother was taking interest in the park.
The two made their way up to the rope and slid underneath it with ease.
"See, did they really expect that to keep anybody out."
The two boys pushed on into the forest, making their way through the thick foliage. Trying to clear a path, Jim grabbed the extended branches of the tree in front of him and pushed them aside, only to reveal the faint trace of an old abandoned trail.
"Here we go," exclaimed Jim, stepping into the narrow clearing triumphantly. "It's an old Indian trail, let's see where it leads to."
Jim set off down the trail with Matt following him with a bit of reluctance in his footsteps.
"Are you sure it's safe for us to be in here," asked Matt nervously.
"Seriously, Matt, what's the worst that could happen?"
