Jim and Rick watched and waited as the chair changed into its new form, which was a squirrel. Once the transformation was complete, the new animal darted out of the room and into the hall.
"You wanted to become a squirrel?" Rick asked.
"It was only a test, but yeah. I always wondered what it would be like to be an animal and a squirrel was just the first one I thought of."
Rick looked out in the hall, but the squirrel wasn't there. "Where do you think it went?"
Suddenly, there was a scream coming from downstairs. Rick recognized it as his sister's.
"Oh crap," Rick said, before running down the stairs and into the living room. "What is it?" he asked Rebecca.
"There's a squirrel in here!" she yelled, standing up on the sofa and looking down at the floor.
After Jim came down the stairs, Rick asked him if he could change the squirrel back to what it was. Rick's sister asked what he was talking about, but he didn't answer her. He'd have to figure out later if he wanted to tell her about the spell book. But after what happened next, he probably didn't have to.
Jim closed his eyes and concentrated on the image of the squirrel. As he did, the squirrel showed its face again by running across the floor, darting towards the living room. But before it could even make it half way, it suddenly stopped, spun around and morphed back into the desk chair it was before.
Rebecca stepped down from the sofa and looked at the chair sitting in the middle of the room. "What ... how? Was that, like, magic or something?" she asked.
There was no keeping this from his sister now, so he told her the truth. "Yeah, it is."
