"Um, I don't think we can," replied Jamie.
"What? Why not?"
"Like I said, I have to do what Jamie did so that I won't alter the past. I remember that when I... I mean Jamie kissed me goodbye and left in a hurry I didn't see her again that night. In fact the next time I saw her was a few minutes ago when I looked at my reflection in the girl's restroom. So I can't be seen here again by my past self, especially dancing with you. We need to leave here pronto before we screw up history."
Rick let out a sigh. "Shit. So this entire evening is a wash."
"Well, you could always poof me into another girl so that my past self won't recognize me."
"No, I spent a lot of time coming up with an incantation to get your current form just right. Changing you into a different looking girl would feel like a downgrade."
"Oh," Jamie realized that Rick had given her the body of his dream girl, his ideal lover, so he was a more than a little let down over being unable to dance with her. "So what do we do then?
"Call the whole night off I guess. Transport us back to our time and restore your regular form. Their isn't anything else we can do here if you have to avoid being seen by your past self."
"Whoa, waitaminute," Jamie huffed. "In case you haven't noticed I'm still a girl, I still like guys, and this is still a date. So what if we can't dance together, we can still go out and have fun. How about dinner and a movie? Just put some food in my stomach and a flick in front of me and I'll call this date a resounding success. I'm an easy girl to please. "
"I guess, the cinemaplex is right down the street along with a few restaurants. Was there any movie that you wanted to see?"
"Anything but a chick flick."
Rick smiled and planted a kiss on Jamie's lips. "You're a girl after my own heart."
Rick and Jamie held each others hand and exited the school building.
Meanwhile....
Jim stood by the bleachers and replayed what just happened to him over and over in his mind. He had just met the girl of his dreams, they danced, they kissed, and then suddenly she had to leave as if the building was on fire.
Jim walked towards the restroom, depressed that he was alone at the dance again and that he had let go of a potential girlfriend without even finding out her last name.
Out of the corner of Jim's eyes he caught the unmistakable green tint of Jamie's dress as she left the school with another guy that he couldn't make out the identity of.
"That must be her asshole of a boyfriend she was talking about," thought Jim. "Maybe I should follow them to make sure that he doesn't do anything to hurt Jamie."
