It looked like Rick was about to do something, when suddenly there was a knock at his bedroom door. It startled him enough that he dropped the memory sphere on the floor and it rolled over to Jim's feet.
"I'll get it," Jim said, reaching down for it.
"No, wait!" Rick yelled out, as Jim clenched the blue ball.
Strands of glowing blue liquid squirted out of the ball and onto Jim's arm. Then the liquid moved up his arm and into his head. What felt like a jolt of electricity hit Jim, sending him sprawling towards the floor.
"Damn it, Jim. Why didn't you listen to me?"
The knocking continued. Then there was a voice. It was Rick's sister Rebecca. "What's going on in there?"
Jim was only out for a few seconds. And when he opened his eyes, he saw the world in a whole new perspective. He had all of Rick's knowledge of magic.
He looked at Rick was cold understanding. "I was nothing to you."
"What?"
"I was just something to play with. A game."
"Jim, it wasn't like that. I was gonna change you back."
Jim stood up quickly and got right in Rick's face. "You didn't have to change me in the first place! There are thousands of harmless spells you could have performed! You liked messing with me!"
"Okay, okay. Maybe I liked it a little. But we're friends. Sometimes we do that sort of stuff."
"Turn each other into clay balls?"
"No. You know what I mean."
"Rick, I thought I was gonna stay like that."
"I said that I was gonna change you back."
"I can't trust you anymore."
"Jim, listen ..."
"No." Then Jim closed his eyes and murmured a barely audible chant while making strange gestures with his hands, just like Rick did earlier. After a bit of time, Jim's eyes shot open to reveal that his pupils had changed to a glowing milky white. He slowly raised his right hand and made his way towards Rick.
Rick may have forgotten the spells he learned in his sorcery classes, but he hadn't lost his memories during that time. He knew that he couldn't let Jim touch him. He didn't know what spell Jim was performing, but it couldn't be good. He stepped back as far as he could, but he was trapped with no way out. He was helplessly pinned against the wall as Jim's hand shot to the top of his forehead, sending a bolt of electricity through Rick's body.
After Jim let go of his friend's forehead, Rick slid down the wall to the floor. Jim's eyes returned to normal as the air around him lost its static charge.
