Jim heard the smile in her voice as she said, "Hi, Jim. What happened that you're calling me like this?"
Jim replied, "I got into a bit of a fight with you-know-who, who left me like this."
"I guess that would explain why he lit out of here a few minutes ago, with such a sulfurous expression on his face. What was it about?"
"Well, about you, partially. And generally about last night. Don't worry about it; it's nothing too serious. But do you have any idea how I can get back to myself?"
She answered, "Not really. You can come over here, though, if you want. It'll keep you from having to deal with your parents, and have you here when Rick gets home. By that time, he'll probably be calmed down, and ready to put you back."
"Are you sure your parents won't mind?"
"I'll just tell them you're a friend from school. It'll be fine."
"Ok," he agreed. "I'll be over in a few minutes."
Turning to Katie, he said, "I guess I'll head over there, instead."
"I'll walk you out, then, just in case mom and dad are paying attention," she replied.
"Let me put some clothes in a bag, real quick, just in case."
