On Saturday, Jim got up a little bit early, to ensure that he finished all his chores before going out. Since his parents left very early for some volunteer work they were doing in town, he also made sure to leave her a note saying that he wouldn't be home for dinner.
After breakfast, he worked through his chores as quickly as he could, finishing shortly before noon. Since Katie was still home, he asked if she wanted to join him for sandwiches. "So where's your date today, bro?"
"Who said I had a date today," he demanded.
"Come on, you get up early to do chores." Picking up the note he left, she continued, "You leave mom a note saying you're not going to be home for dinner. What else could it be?"
He caved, and admitted he was meeting Rebecca for roller skating, then they were going to join Rick and his latest flame for a movie and dinner after.
"An all-day date," she teased him. "It must be pretty serious."
"What about you," he prodded back. "Where are you going with Charles today?"
"The art gallery is opening a new exhibit, including several of his pieces."
"Wow," he said, with mock amazement. "I guess you'll be out all night, then."
"You know mom wouldn't let me do that. I'll be home around eleven."
"Well, time for me to shower and get ready. Have a good time, tonight."
"Good luck," she wished him.
