The first shop they went into wasn't too bad for Jim; the pants and shirts they looked at weren't too much different from that to which he was accustomed. He picked up a pair of pants and a cardigan there.
By the time they got to the third store, even though he hadn't bought anything else, he was having fun. He even picked out a couple of skirts without prompting from Rebecca; after her thumbs-up appraisal for one of them, he bought it, another skirt Rebecca had picked out, and two tops to match them.
Once they had those, Rebecca pointed out that he needed some underwear as well; she suggested they walk down to the department store.
When they got there, they checked what size Jim had on. They looked around a bit, but couldn't find anything in that size. Jim went over to the saleslady, and asked about it, "I'm sorry, but I can't find anything in my size. Can you help me?"
"What size are you, sweetie?"
"30DD."
"Honey," she answered, "We ain't never had that size. Heck, I don't know for sure that they make it. I'm sorry, maybe the lingerie store down the way can help you." With that, she turned away to help someone else.
Jim turned to Rebecca, who had a cheshire cat-grin on her face. "What's so funny," he asked.
"I thought this would probably happen," she said. "I can only sometimes find my size here, and you're even bigger than I am."
"Then why did we come in here," he demanded.
"Because I didn't think you'd believe me, if I just said we should go to the lingerie shop. I thought you might think I just wanted to see you something lacy or silky." She stepped in very close again, and whispered into his ear, "Or maybe you'd think I wanted to walk in on you while you're trying something there. And maybe you'd be right, on that count; the selection there is much more interesting than here."
She gave him a quick peck on the cheek, and led the way over.
Despite her implied threat, Rebecca let Jim find what he wanted, once she'd helped him find the only fairly plain bra of that size in stock. She pouted when he said that he wanted to find something he wasn't going to show her (now), but was pleased, even if it meant waiting outside the store.
When he finished, and joined her outside, she said, "Well, it's six o'clock now. Would you rather find shoes or food?"
"I'm just going to get a pair of sneakers, and that should be quick, so let's do that first."
"You've obviously never shopped for women's shoes before. But you'll see," Rebecca promised.
Rebecca did end up impressed; they finished in only forty-five minutes. They walked out with one pair of sneakers, as promised, plus a pair of knee-high, heeled leather boots that Jim claimed were calling to him.
