When the officer knocked, Jim rolled the window down. He asked, "Do you ladies know why I pulled you over?"
"No sir," Jim answered. "We were just going home."
"In an awful hurry, it seems."
"We were under the limit, officer."
At this very obvious lie, the officer just stared at her. "Well, sir, the limit was 50 a minute ago," Jim stated, matter-of-factly.
The officer showed about equal parts enlightenment and disgust at this. "Yes, it was fifty on Beauregard. But when you made a left turn onto this road, it dropped to 30."
"But there was no sign, officer."
