Krystal was trying to get used to her new surroundings (which very oddly seemed very familiar, for some reason, and the more time that passed, the more at home she felt), when suddenly the phone rang. For a moment, she was hesitant to pick up the house phone, but then ended up doing it anyway. After all, this was her house. She lived there. It was only after she answered the phone that she realized that that wasn't true. Or, at least, it shouldn't have been.

"Hello?" she asked.

"Nadine? Is that you? Your voice sounds different," came a woman's voice.

"No one by that name lives here," Krystal said. Though, she didn't know how she knew that. "You must have the wrong number."

"I don't have the wrong number," the woman said. "I live there. That's my ... house." The woman seemed like she wasn't totally sure about that.

"Listen, whoever you are ..."

"Laura," the woman said. "Laura Stuart. Wait ..." The woman on the phone seemed unsure about what she was saying, again. Krystal was starting to think that something might be wrong with her. More than her just calling the wrong number.

"Okay, Laura. This isn't your house. This is my house," Krystal said, and now that felt more correct than ever before. "You don't live here and neither does that Nadine person. I do." Then she abruptly ended the call, wanting it over with. The last thing she wanted to deal with was some crazy woman pestering her. Krystal needed to figure out how she got here and why this place seemed more like home than that crummy apartment she had just a day ago.

======

Laura just stared down at her phone. Did that girl just hang up on her? And what was with that name she gave? "Stuart" was Laura's maiden name. Did that mean that she never got married? But Nadine was still her daughter ... could it be that she got pregnant while she was single? Was her husband Roger even Nadine's father anymore? As it turned out, he was, but the circumstances in which Laura had gotten pregnant were much different.

She was about to call back to her house again (oddly, it was beginning to feel like she lived somewhere else, though she didn't know where), but stopped. Whoever that girl was who answered the phone before, Laura felt like she'd get nowhere with her. So instead, she called her daughter Nadine. Unfortunately, it went straight to voicemail. But that was because, unknown to Laura, Nadine was currently in a cell at the police station with no access to her phone.

So Laura called her best friend Katie. She couldn't find her number on her phone contacts list, but she had called her enough times to know the number by heart. A moment later, the phone began to ring, and someone actually picked up!

======

Katie pulled the ringing phone out of her purse and looked at the caller ID - UNKNOWN NUMBER. Normally, she wouldn't answer something like that, but these were strange times, so she answered.

"Hello?" she asked, hesitantly.

"Katie, thank god!"

"Laura?" Katie asked, surprised.

"Who da hell is Laura?" Jack asked, turning away from Sophia's closet momentarily. Devon was elsewhere in the house, looking for Sophia's ID and key-fob.
