Jon didn't like the idea of his mother being a guy at all, and certainly not the idea of talking to her about what had happened... but he couldn't think of much else to do.
First came a little preparation. If his mother really had messed up wishes many years ago, she could do anything if she learned he had the stone now. "I wish Mom would never try to take this stone without my agreement, whether I'm carrying it or not."
The stone flashed.
Emboldened by his wish, he left his room and caught his mother in the living room, about to watch a recording of a TV program.
"Mom?" he asked.
"What is it, Jon?" replied the woman.
"We need to talk. The other day, when we got the news that Grandpa died... He left me his magic wishing stone."
There was surprise on her face, but Jon worried. There were all sorts of ways this could go wrong. Maybe her accidental wish made her forget about the stone completely. Maybe she made a wish that forced her to act with some personality, so even if she knew about the stone she couldn't talk about it. Maybe she was happy as she is but just didn't want to talk about it.
And she replied....
